LGBTQIA+ Support

A safe, affirming space with genuine understanding

I have a personal understanding of the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ people face. I understand the significance of support, found family and the importance of acceptance.

Sexuality is a integral part of who we are, for all of us. For LGBT people it can be a defining part, a hidden part, a shameful part, a joyful part; but it is rarely a neutral part. It has history, often it has struggles and turmoil, both internally and resulting from the actions and reactions of others. The influence of family and society, school and early relationships; the impact on self-esteem through discrimination, exclusion, and rejection. How hostility can cause or contribute to internalised stigma and shame.

The living history of discrimination and the LGBT rights movement and the legacy of attitudes towards the LGBT community historically in health care. The Isolation and loneliness and lasting legacy of loss from AIDS.

With changing political and legal situations, the impact of religious beliefs, politics, and culture. LGBT safe spaces are closing and support is increasingly difficult to access.

Within the need to be authentic, the guilt, shame, joy, journey to accepting yourself for most queer people life is a complex mix.

I aim to give LGBT people and their families (either biological or found) a safe space with an empathetic connection to explore their thoughts and feelings, their experiences and relationships. To uncover the areas they struggle with and help them find their own way forward.
